After a stint in the Navy to work out a fascination with pirates, Chuck Sudo returned to the city that spawned and shaped his worldview. Well, that and one can’t make a living loitering outside Rolling Stones Records in Norridge. The northwest side native graduated from Lane Tech (“be fearless and bold for the Myrtle and Gold.”) and moved to Bridgeport eight years ago, where he counts his blessings that his rent is still dirt cheap and became a converted White Sox fan.
These days he wears many hats. As a longtime employee of the popular South Loop cultural center HotHouse (www.hothouse.net), he has a solid base of knowledge in jazz, world music and cocktails (he’s the creator of the club’s popular “HotHouse Flower” cocktail). His wine and spirit knowledge serve him well as the food and drink editor at Chicagoist (www.chicagoist.com), where he also writes the site’s “Beer of the Week” and “South Side Cheap Eats” columns, and carries the torch for all dining options south of Madison Street. Chuck regards beer with the same reverence others regard wine, is a committed cyclist, and can take a good photograph under pressure.
