Women in Film and Television

WIFT's claims to be the organization for "women who want to be active in Chicago's film industry, as well as, promote their gender within the business." WIFT's big event is their Achievement Awards held in March in which they recognize local female talent that have hit the big time such as Joan Allen and Irma P. Hall. They are known to hold seminars, luncheons, screenings, and put out their bi-monthly newsletter, IN FOCUS, for members. Membership ranges from forty bucks for students to $100 for seasoned professionals (with a few other price categories). While I've often heard complaints about WIFT's phone lines, (specifically, how a human voice never answers the calls), don't get discouraged. Get to one of their seminars or luncheons and meet the folks in charge. It could be a good way for a female novice to get into the biz. (Note form the Editor: WIFT assured me that their hotline is functioning, even though I called and received an "out-of-service" message. They said you just have to try it two or three times).
