Lookingglass Theatre Company

This formerly itinerant theatre company (who recently got a permanent residence downtown in the Water Tower Water Works), is one of the city's most acclaimed, winning 26 Joseph Jefferson Citations (and being nominated 31 times) in producing 25 world premieres over 9 seasons. The company began its life with an adaptation of production of Lewis Carroll's novel Alice in Wonderland, Through The Looking Glass and still hosts regular (and fun) Wonderland-related benefits.

More than any other Chicago Theatre, Lookingglass' bold, athletic theatre speaks to young, college-educated theatregoers. Among its alumni are David Schwimmer ("Friends," etc.), Thomas J. Cox, David Kersnar, Temple Williams III, Joy Gregory, Douglas Hara, Laura Eason, Mary Zimmerman, Joey Slotnick, Eva Barr, Lawrence E. DiStasi, David Catlin, Andrew White, John Musial, Heidi Stillman, Christine Mary Dunford, Philip R. Smith, Raymond Fox, Tracy Walsh, and Shirley Anderson.

Notable productions have included Arabian Nights, Master and the Margarita, HereAfter, and Dreaming Lucia.
