| Yes, Cusack is definitely one of Hughes' pet actors, but not because of Say Anything (a Cameron Crowe film often mistaken as a Hughes flick), but rather because of his portrayal as one of Anthony Michael Hall's sci-fi geek friends in Sixteen Candles which was pretty much Cusack's feature film acting debut... Despite being the little brother of two time Oscar nominee Joan Cusack, John seems to have no trouble coming into his own. Although Johnny's big claim to fame was his lead performance as the sympathetic Lloyd Dobler in . . . Say Anything which plucked the amateur actor out of his Evanston home and into Hollywood stardom, it's been Cusack's 1997 releases which have refreshed the public's memory about how much they like this guy. Film credits include The Grifters (1990), Bullets Over Broadway (1994; and a perfect "link to Kevin Bacon"), Grosse Point Blank (1997), Con Air (1997), and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997). He co-stars with Billy Bob Thornton in the new Pushing Tin. He and longtime Evanston friend Jeremy Piven (both attended their parents' Piven Theatre Workshop as kids) founded the New Crime theatre company.
