Born Eugene Kal Siskel on January 26, 1946, the late Chicago Tribune movie columnist co-hosted a popular movie review show (Siskel & Ebert) with Sun-Times rival Roger Ebert before dying at the age of 53 of complications of a brain tumor. During 25 years on the air, the pair's "thumbs up/thumbs down" reviews in the manner of ancient roman emperors and contentious discussion influenced millions of movie fans, and made both journalists rich and famous. Suggested by Eliot Wald, a producer at the local PBS station WTTW, the program was nationally syndicated in 1978.
In addition to this show and and the Tribune, Siskel was also a contributor to "CBS This Morning," a columnist for TV guide, and a number of magazines, including even Sports Illustrated.
