| With his wife (Joyce Piven), Piven was the co-recipient of the 2000 Joseph Jefferson Award for lifetime achievement. The Pivens are co-artistic directors of the Piven Theatre Workshop (which runs one of the North Shore's better series), settling into Evanston after a career in touring theatre. Byrne Piven has also been a professor at Northwestern University. Their children, Shira and Jeremy Piven, are both actors.
