Urbanites who miss small-town business charm will find Lincoln Square's Book Cellar like a breath of fresh, country air.

A step through the doors takes you into a literary Land of Oz. Neatly stacked, tightly packed shelves house books of every genre, including two sizeable sections dedicated to local authors and children's books. Peak around every corner and find semi-private nooks, where big comfy chairs invite you to lose yourself in a story. If you're hankering for a snack, head over to the left half of the bookstore, where a cafe serves up light meals—sandwiches and salads—coffee and tea. Better yet, the vino selection—housed in its own private bookcase—is plentiful and served either by the glass ($6-$9) or bottle ($24-$36).

The true charm of the Book Cellar, though, is the staff. Cheerful, knowledgeable and friendly, these folks will bend over backwards to help you find a book or bottle of wine, depending on your search. Owner Suzy Takacs takes pride in welcoming local authors and artists into the space, hosting a monthly book club, regular music performances and readings.
