Broadway musicals and cringe-inducing Oriental stereotypes go together like Rodgers and Hammerstein ("Flower Drum Song," Broadway 1958). Silk Road, a theater company devoted to portraying members of the Eastern diaspora through plays actually written by members of the Eastern diaspora, confronts the issue of appropriation by appropriating right back. Its new cabaret, an exercise in cultural criticism as toe-tapping good time, will feature songs from "Kismet," "Miss Saigon" and much, much more.
