Surprisingly fresh and funny, Gayco's "The Audacity of Nope or How I Fell for a Pansy Scheme" mixes songs and sketches, crafting an entertaining hour of gay-themed comedy. The pleasant, engaging cast opens with "I've Got The Right, But Is It Right For Me?" a wittily choreographed number critiquing the push for gay marriage. Through skits and songs referencing everything from parking in Chicago, to swine flu, to Obama's passive stance on gay rights, each cast member has his or her standout moments. Although some have issues with projection, overall, performances are uniformly solid. In particular, Andy Eninger deadpans like a pro, and Kelly Yacono shows off a lovely singing voice.
As a whole, the show is speckled with laugh-out-loud lines. Notable scenes include a sketch equating a Chicago alderman with a sex slave, and a faux Fox news update in which Obama is described as making America "more socialist and blacker." All in all, Gayco has created an endearing evening of comedy.
