Broadway in Chicago's springtime offering is a funny, hyper-caffeinated musical draped in pink and brimming with timely themes and positive role models, particularly for young women. You might even call this show a guilty pleasure, especially if (secretly) you are a fan of the Reese Witherspoon film that spawned it. No one can deny, however, that "Legally Blonde" is just plain fun.

Tony Award-winning choreographer Jerry Mitchell chose the perfect vehicle for his Broadway directorial debut. The production features his signature fast-paced, high-spirited energy and fresh, innovative dances. The opening number ("Omigod You Guys," which will haunt you long after the curtain falls) sets the frenzied pace for rest of the show. "Whipped Into Shape," a live cardio workout video that opens Act II, is a perfect example of Mitchell's choreographic ingenuity and talent, incorporating synchronized rope-jumping that will leave you both amazed and breathless.

The winner of three 2009 Touring Broadway Awards, this company is every bit as strong as the original New York cast. Vivacious Becky Gulsvig (Laura Bell Bundy's Broadway understudy) is a lovable, effervescent, singing/dancing Elle Woods, the Malibu Barbie sorority blonde-with-brains who is determined to win back her man by attending Harvard Law School with him. Natalie Joy Johnson is both engaging and hilarious as Paulette, Elle's buxom new beautician friend who, like Elle, is simply looking for love and a little respect. Elle and her sorority sisters teach Paulette how to be confident and use what God gave her in the show-stopping "Bend and Snap." Audiences will find inspiration watching the two friends helping each other and relying on the girl power that is the heart of this show.

While the current recession seems to have taken a toll on its scenery, this tour presents an inspiring story featuring high-powered choreography, catchy pop tunes with witty lyrics and a top-notch cast. At a time when we need it most, this show is guaranteed to make you smile, set your toes a-tapping and put you back in the pink.
