Got a binder full of songs you wrote, but no one to listen to them? Have you written a one-act, yet can't find a stage to perform it on? Does your improv group have a new comedic form to present, but nowhere to test it out? Don't fret; Three Cat Thursdays will give you a home—and your audience will find you.
Three Cat Media's weekly Thursday evening show is part open-mic, part staged and rehearsed performances, and full-on fun. With a rotating program each week, every show is different, but all spotlight new talent and projects in a cultivating environment.
Its programming line-up is as follows:
• Week one: "Cabaret Variety Hour," promising "a little bit of everything, lots of fun and surprises." Expect solos, duets, sketches and dance numbers…what will they do next? • Week two: "New Works" features composers and writers showcasing their latest projects, often for the very first time on stage anywhere. • Week three: "Life is a Song" is another cabaret evening, but here local and national singers present their perceptions of the night's predetermined theme through songs and monologues. • Week four: "Featured Artists" allows musical guests to take over the stage and turn it to their own.
Recently, Eric Lane Barnes, with the help of friends Eric Dorn and Tina Gluschenko, presented a body of original works titled "Nixed Muts" on "New Works" night. Barnes' often silly and humorous catalog of tunes ran the gamut of emotions, including a nostalgic shout-out to Jan Brady, the problems with deceptive advertising, and social comments on the current political climate.
Gorilla Tango Theater provides an intimate setting for performers. With cabaret tables on the floor and risers with seats, the space easily adapts to nearly all performance styles. So if you have a project you're just dying to have staged, a body of songs you know would make the world a better place, or are looking to see something new and fresh on an ordinary Thursday night, then head to Three Cat Thursdays. It's the ideal venue for presentation, expression and appreciation.
