Not just itnerant, but in exile, these astoundingly brave performers have been bringing theatre out of oppression since 2005. Members of the Belarus Free Theatre, founded in Europe's last surviving dictatorship, have faced imprisonment and harassment for speaking (and acting) out against the regime. Their new touring show, inspired by Kathy Acker's book "New York City, 1979," is a portrait of a city through the sexuality of its citizens. Brutal and bleak, but very human, the show explores how the people of Minsk hook up and get off under the surveilling eye of an autocratic regime.
