This rambunctious Broadway hit coruscates with the sounds of the Nigerian firebrand Fela Kuti, perhaps history's boldest musician/activist. Forget acoustic guitars, Fela's protest songs were big band affairs, complete with juicy brass and ecstatic dancing. This stage tribute to the maestro, who died in 1997 after a life that featured over 200 arrests, focuses on an especially turbulent period in the 1970s. Critics say it recreates the intense, joyful and dangerous feeling of a real Fela show.
