Brian Friel’s well-known monologue play made its Chicago debut in 1995, in a tiny Turnaround Theatre production that later transferred to the Steppenwolf Studio. Seventeen years later, the Den has reassembled the original cast and director of the Turnaround show for a remount with the benefit of experience. Critics say that this version of the show is older, wiser and even better at portraying the subtle heartbreak in Friel’s words.
