Any doubts as to the whereabouts of this discreet South Loop wine shop are quickly laid to rest with one glance at the sign in its window. It spells the store's name in dancing light bulbs, making it abundantly clear that this is the place for anyone seeking a switch from their everyday Chardonnay.
An illuminated greeting isn't the only thing that sets this place apart: Aimless browsing is expected and encouraged, with an airy floor plan and a rotating inventory of wines tasted and approved by Lush's small but knowledgeable staff. Prices range from $8-$180, and the budget-conscious will be pleased to find a great deal of quality bottles for $10 or less.
But wine isn't the only thing to grace the glass here. An extraordinary mix of Cabernets, Syrahs, Merlots and Rieslings share custom-built cabinet space with Dreamy Cloud sake, foreign beers and obscure brands of Irish whiskey.
Better still, Lush is all about education. An array of bottles behind the counter are available for in-house sampling, and every Sunday the shop hosts a tasting event where experts on specific libations explain the drink's finer points from 2-5 p.m.
