Built as a nod to the now-closed Zoom Kitchen, ZKFood offers a similar spread, with options for dine-in, carryout or curbside. But this cafe is a classed-up version, dressed in sleek hardwood and exposed brick with honeydew-colored accents, intimate seating and contemporary music. On the menu you'll still find the comfort classics and build-your-own salads that made Zoom famous, but the expanded list is sure to end many a diet-centric debate.
Yes, that's right … finally, meatloaf and mac-n-cheese fiends are free to indulge, while their more delicate dates get a guilt-free fix with tossed greens or veggie-based entrees, including one made-from-scratch vegan soup every day. On middle ground are popular treats like fresh-carved turkey and white bean chicken chili. Wherever you stand on the spectrum, however, don't skip the sweet potato wedges … the crispy, caramelized delights are like no other version we've tried.
With most lunches well under $10 and most dinners under $12, you won't have to think twice about springing for dessert. Molly Kipp, pastry chef at Spring, furnishes ZKF with an array of home-baked goodies like super-moist cupcakes (they call 'em Molly Cakes) in chocolate, vanilla and seasonal flavors like pumpkin spice with cream cheese frosting.
As if the place wasn't perfect enough, it's also got free wi-fi, sports on flat-screens, and a BYO policy sans corkage fee. Understandably, the carryout zone is packed between 5-7 p.m., so you might want to call your order in ahead of time. Can't make it in? The eatery will deliver in the neighborhood between 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Saturday for just $2 extra, and it's also available for catering.
