Ever had the desire to sit down and relax in the bustling epicenter of the Gold Coast? Then plant yourself at one of the umbrella-topped tables at Whispers Cafe. This coffee cabana serves up cappuccinos year round in Mariano Park, the triangular green space between State and Rush on Bellevue Place.
Dog owners and children alike have a grand time in this courtyard filled with trees, park benches, hydrangea-dripping light posts and a crowd-pleasing fountain that is active in warmer months. Simply put, Whispers is a family-friendly spot in an area famous for being an adult playground.
There's a lot to see from the vantage point of Mariano Park: Diners clog the sidewalks of Rush on their way to the pricy Tavern on Rush, Gibson's and Carmine's. On weekend nights, SUV limousines cart bachelor (and bachelorette) parties around the Viagra Triangle. A favorite sight was the recently removed divorce attorney billboard located directly behind Whispers that drew national attention for advertising with an image of a female escort.
In addition to coffee, Whispers sells a bucketful of biscotti, baked goods and ice cream (in the summer). Specialties include cookie chillers, New England coffee cake and the seasonal pumpkin patch mocha. There is also a full selection of herbal and regular tea. A small coffee starts at $1.40.
