Thai food is so commonplace throughout the Chicago area that it almost becomes a cliche when a restaurant claims to offer their food to diners as "authentic." Look deeper into the menu at this Skokie-based outpost and you’ll see that they mean it. Their menu items aren't simply warmed over rehashes of fried rice, pad thai and satays (although you’ll find those here).

Meang Kum, a blend of grilled shrimp and vegetables served on fresh chapoo leaves, is a revelation of flavor. Likewise, Tub Tim Thai's curries aren't just warmed over, overspiced goulashes. Their red curry, in particular, finds that fine balance between the heat of curry and the sweetness of coconut milk.

Tub Tim Thai's dining room exudes tranquility, fitting since the restaurant is named after the chef's mother. Each table is decorated with lucky bamboo stems while the room is awash in dark wood tones and deep, rich mustard colored walls.

No Thai takeout clichés to be found here. Service at Tub Tim Thai is efficient and not what one would expect in a small storefront. Food is served here on sparkling porcelain plates with tender loving care.
