Hobnob with the less-than-corporate employees at this Munster brewery, open for tours to the public on Saturday at 3 p.m. Tours are little more than a quick look-see around the warehouse, but a handful of dedicated regulars will make it worth your while. These friendly folks get paid in beer to run errands for the bosses and show you around the joint.
You'll want to lay down a fiver for a pint of your own. Try the Alpha King, Three Floyds' flagship beer described as a "hop lover's cult beer," with its Centennial, Cascade and Warrior hops. If you're feeling hungry, the Brew Pub offers a full menu of pizzas, soups, salads and pub fare like ruebens, fish and chips and a tasty pork schnitzel served on a pretzel roll.
In April, the brewery holds its annual Dark Lord Day, a festival to sample brews, meet fellow beer lovers, nosh on BBQ and listen to live music. It's also the only day of the year you can purchase the Three Floyds Dark Lord Russian imperial stout, which boasts several awards, as well as a walloping 13 percent alcohol by volume rate.
