Though the name would have you believe you're about to embark on a soap operatic journey, Sweet Passion is a dessert haven worth hitting the brakes for. World-renowned pastry chef Peter Yuen, who also owns
La Patisserie P up the street, combines the best of French-inspired desserts with a hint of Asian finesse. Along with more customary pastries like eclairs, cannoli and croissants, Sweet Passion makes its own ice cream and uses local coffee roaster
Metropolis for its espresso drinks.
A small operation with intimate seating for about eight, those who like to savor their sweets while cozied up with a sweetie will find a home here. The real coup de sweetness, though, are the take-home sheet cakes, which are as much about artistry as they are about indulgence. These cakes offer five to seven layers of decadent bliss in flavors like Mochachino, Mango Madness and Pure Happiness; fillings range from the semi-traditional mousse and peanut butter to the more exotic lychee.
If a seven-layer sheet cake is too much for your sweet tooth, sample a salted caramel, velvety truffle or tangy cheesecake tart. All cost less than $5 and will leave your palate pleasantly appeased.
