What this drive-in lacks in looks, it more than makes up for in pure nostalgic manna...not to mention the milkshakes, amazing concoctions that leave your belly full and your mouth buzzing. Primarily a summer fav, Susie's can seat three inside on stools along the miniscule counter, or more outside at one of three tables. Drivers can also place their orders (sans radio) and take the tight u-turn around the back to pick up their eats and keep going.
Fare here doesn't diverge much from the traditional "grill" offerings: sandwiches, chili cheese fries, burgers and dogs. Special items include blue cheese fries (in an edible bowl!), pizza puffs and taco salads in large tortilla baskets.
And then there are the shakes: 54 flavors (or create your own) ranging in size from medium to "burp" (which looks to be roughly 64 ounces). Each comes topped with whip cream as thick as pudding. Try a phosphate or "green river" for a taste of the past, or eschew the same-old chocolate for a Short Cake or Grasshopper shake. Prices average $3-$7 for food, $2.45 and up for shakes.
Average cost: <$10
