Al Capone. Michael Jordan. Da Bears. Da Bulls. "The City of Big Shoulders" is still working its charm in this tucked away Chicago-centric pizza joint that challenges Giordano's deep dish 'za. Ratchet up your Chicaaaaago accent, throw on a local sports team cap, and barge through the door. Images of all the aforementioned plaster the walls, and the low lights echo a tavern-esque setting.
Pizza's the main heartthrob here, but it's all about the crust — not the deep dish. Stefano's knows that slapping loads of cheese on a pizza doesn't do nearly as much good to your arteries as injecting it into the crust. The signature large stuffed pizza with cheese (in case you didn't know there'd be cheese on it) rings in at $15.35; a large thin-crust 'za (again, with cheese) will cost you $11.25. Toppings run the gamut, ranging from your usual sausage, pepperoni and mushrooms to pineapple, ground beef and jalapeño peppers.
If you'd rather get your carbs in another form, venture to the pasta section of the menu. Choose from a hearty portion of spaghetti with meatballs ($7.95) or go all out with the lasagna ($8.95). There's even a garden house salad ($4.95) for the dieter. And did we mention that you can order a heart-shaped pizza (hint: propose here)? Yep, Stefano's has got that whole "Chicago thing" down pat.
Average cost: $10-$20
