Star of Siam dishes out heaping plates of noodles, veggies and meat at rock-bottom prices to hungry lunch patrons. With its large, open dining room and convenient location just across the river from the Loop, it's no wonder that this Thai palace has proven itself an extremely popular lunch spot.
Settle into one of Star of Siam's in-ground tables, and your server will be with you in a few minutes. In addition to its other accolades, Star of Siam sets itself apart from other downtown lunch hotspots with its quick, friendly service. Start out with the satay or crab Rangoon then move on to its many flavorful dishes, almost all of which cost $8 or less (try the Rama chicken, with its smooth peanut sauce, or the spicy Mussaman curry). The Thai iced tea is worth the extra $1.50. Make sure you order rice on the side, as it's not included; the one-person serving is plenty for two and just $1. While few items on the regular menu are strictly vegetarian, Star of Siam will prepare most menu items without meat at your request.
Average cost: <$10
