From the outside, SRO (Standing Room Only for the acronym-free crowd) may not look like much more than a small restaurant with some casual tables inside and out, but don't discount the menu before you've taken your first bite.
The fries are crisp and crinkled, the cheeseburgers are rich, and there are a number of vegetarian options, such as salads and a very tasty portabella mushroom sandwich with garlic-infused spinach. A fries, drink and a sandwich meal will run you about $8; it's a bargain but not so low that it discourages some of Chicago's most notable citizens from stopping by. (It's rumored that Mayor Daley enjoys an SRO turkey burger now and again.)
Located in the heart of Printer's Row, SRO is quiet, clean and has filled its wall with colorful and fun sports memorabilia. Between that and the patties being flipped on the grill, it's every Chicagoan's dream. Hungover locals take note: You may want to heal over a burger and fries after a rough Saturday night, but SRO is closed on Sundays.
