Rockin' Taco seems the perfect spot for the average rebellious Lakeview student with every-mother's-worst-nightmare chained link necklaces and what look like tire rims dangling from their lobes. The walls layered in a smoked-out Bob Marley and Iron Maiden posters at least give that impression.
For now, the space appears ominous with its Urban Cafe sign overhead, but don't overlook the neon Rockin' Taco one in the window. Inside, apart from musical legends plastered onto walls, you'll find a flat screen, a few tables and a high chair or two for the kiddies.
Behind the counter stands an army of bubbly employees, and haloing above them a blackboard menu scribed in chalk. Order the typical Mexican eats like tacos, flautas and quesadillas. Up for a big burrito? Try the Baby Huey Burrito, of which the menu assures, "it's a big one!" Up for a challenge? On Friday evenings, sign up for the Friday Night Fight; the objective involves finishing 10 half-pound tacos, smothered, covered and served in hot sauce "so hot it's not allowed in Hell" within one hour with one drink and one napkin to receive a Rockin' Taco shirt, your picture on the wall of fame and eternal glory.
