Rios D'Sudamerica is the second coming of Rinconcito Sudamericano, which was located a few blocks east on Armitage. Like its predecessor, Rios features traditional Peruvian recipes, fresh ingredients, imaginative sauces and Latin flair.
Master chef Elizabeth Perez made the move from Rinconcito, joining Guillermo Munoz, a graduate of a top culinary school in Lima. Their Peruvian cuisine is a fusion of traditional Inca foods based on potatoes, corn, quinoa and hot peppers and delightful Asian recipes that immigrants brought over the Pacific to modern-day Peru.
Start your evening with the Tamal Peruano (chili stuffed with corn dough, pork, hard-boiled egg and olive) or the Tamal Verde ($4) or the Papa Rellena ($8). Proceed to a selection of elaborately prepared chicken plates ($14-$15) or red meat plates ($13-$28). Or dive into a dozen different seafood options ($14-$20).
Rios D'Sudamerica heats up with Sutra Saturdays, when a well-dressed, 25-and-over crowd gathers after 10:30 p.m. to dance and flirt the night away to salsa, meringue, bachata and disco music. Sutra Saturdays (swinging until 3 a.m.) requires no cover charge, but dress trendy, and be ready to roll your tongue with Spanish come-ons.
Average cost: $10-$20
