One of the absolute best things about a barbecue restaurant is how you can smell it on the approach. When it comes to Ribs 'N Bibs, it's almost as if they're pumping BBQ smell into the air at the 53rd street exit on Lake Shore Drive. You just follow your nose until you're there.
RNB is a longtime South Side classic with a lot of character. From its outward appearance, made to look like an old Western shanty of a shack, right down to the "Saloon" font. Inside the small space (why are BBQ restaurants always so tiny?) you stand in line and wait to order next to the stack of wooden logs they’ll soon be using in the gigantic smoker behind the counter.
The food is pricey, but just about in line for most BBQ these days. A slab of ribs and some fries approaches $20. Perhaps best of all is that RNB is a late-night option: Open to around midnight on weeknights and 1 a.m. on weekends. Ribs 'N Bibs has hardly any seating area at all, so it's best for takeout and delivery.
Average cost: $10-$20
