Imagine a Mexican bakery with a specialty cake shop and Italian tortes, all the size of the Taj Mahal, and you've got a good start on picturing the majestic Pierre's Bakery. Even the decor suggests opulence with its marble-style floors of pink, gray and white; creamy white curtains draped across the wall-to-wall windows that face the street and cut-glass chandeliers that glitter above cases filled with sweets of all shapes and sizes.
You can find nearly anything here: specialty decorated cakes, donuts, muffins, sugar cookies, truffles, cakes, tortes, wedding cakes and ice cream. The conchas are huge, churros come in three flavors and you can actually find turnovers as big as your head. The elephant ears (95 cents each) are the size of a small pizza, and if you feel like splurging, treat yourself to a cheesecake topped with bright red strawberries dripping in syrup or the tiramisu charlotte cake (yellow cake with tiramisu filling, both $39.99).
