Ionizing radiation, growth hormones, genetic modification; for some superheroes and baseball players, these things provide incredible powers. For others, they provide assistance in producing anything from beets to beef. Perhaps in hopes of avoiding the consumption of a superpowered, crime-fighting tomato, many have turned to organically produced foods.
The Painted Lady Organic Eatery prepares all its dishes and snacks solely with organic ingredients. Whether it's breakfast, lunch or a snack, no genetic modifiers are involved. Small bites range from $4 for sweet potato fries with cranberry barbecue sauce to $9 for hummus with flatbread and vegetables. Salads range from $8-$12.50, including The Roller Derby, purported to be a battle royale of all the vegetables that could be found. Sandwiches include The Toni Montana ($10), consisting of steak, ham or seitan, pickles, mojo and chihuahua cheese. Pizzas ($10-$11) are prepared on your choice of olive oil flatbread or sprouted wheat crust, including the spicy El Diablo with peppers, cilantro and chihuahua cheese. Many of the items can be ordered vegan.
An eatery by the folks behind The Bleeding Heart Bakery, the Painted Lady hopes to offer "organic fare in a whimsical manner," and so it does. The setting is a bright mishmash of colors, from the brightly painted walls to the classic formica tables and vinyl chairs. It's a quirky spot to enjoy a bite to eat while you ponder ionizing radiation and if it could turn you into Spider-Man.
