Editorial Review of Orange (Lakeview)

Located near the very busy intersection of Clark and Belmont, this lovely little spot (one of three in Chicago) lives up to its name. Oranges line the shelves behind the counter; orange pillows cushion the wood banquettes up front; orange walls and an artificial orange tree complete the theme. Unsurprisingly, the place does juice like juice has never been done before, specializing in fresh=squeezed fruit and vegetables offerings. Try a simple juice combo or something more complex from the listed varieties, including kiwi, cantaloupe, raspberry, the eponymous orange and more.

Known for its green eggs and ham (colored by pesto, not magic), Orange also features chai-infused French toast, French toast kabobs, pan-seared grit cakes and a flight of tasty pancakes. One unusual treat is frushi (fruit sushi), with tidbits of fruit like mango and fig wrapped in sticky sweet rice, served complete with chopsticks. Lunch items change weekly and include salads and sandwiches (sauteed veggie, chicken basil pesto). Many of the choices on the menu are vegetarian-friendly and/or organic. If you need the hair of the dog, Orange is BYOB.

Due to Orange's extreme popularity, prepare for a long wait on the sidewalk on weekends. Parties of less than four seem to be seated faster because the restaurant space is small, so keep that in mind if planning a group outing. The table by the front window can seat four to five people and offers great Clark Street people-watching.

Average cost: $10-$20
