Is it chicken? Is it fish? Does it matter? As long as it's fried, it really doesn't.
Inside this bare-boned, three-booth strip mall standby, customers saunter in, walk up to the long red counter, order up some greasy goods, take a seat at one of the booths, get the grub, and stroll on out. But some stay to devour the crispy, deep-fried deliciousness found on the menu. And luckily, the menu is divided into fish, chicken and other chicken items. But there's also plenty of organ meat available—and specials, too—like gizzards and liver.
Nothing on the menu will break your bank unless, perhaps, you buy a 100-wing bucket for you and 15 friends. But it's reasonable, as far as wing prices go.
Something else first-timers to JJ Fish & Chicken will notice is the drink menu: You won't find alcohol — pop, Mista and water are the main beverage choices. And there's more catfish on the menu than you'll know what to do with. Items include catfish nuggets, catfish tails, white fish, perch and jumbo shrimp, all deep-fried to perfection.
Dessert options like cake, banana pudding, peach cobbler and cheesecake are all super cheap. Plus, they perfectly top off the hearty, greasy meal that you've likely just consumed. You'll also notice a few candy machines. But there's no public restroom here, so if nature calls, you'd better duck out to the McDonald's on the corner of Sheridan and Wilson.
