Don’t be fooled by the outside of the Icosium Kafe: The exterior may look Middle Eastern, but inside, the eatery serves tasty French crepe fare.
Offering about two dozen sweet and savory crepes, the casual spot is a vegetarian’s delight. The crepes are meatless — although crepe-lovin’ carnivores can add meat to any savory dish for about $3. Savory crepe creations include the palace crepe, which is stuffed with goat cheese, roasted bell peppers, pine nuts, tomatoes, arugula, roasted garlic, baby spinach and caramelized onions; and the Chicago crepe, filled with inventive ingredients like avocado, sundried tomatoes, cilantro and sunflower seeds. (And if you’re looking to eat light, the savory crepes can also be made into salads or served as an omelet.)
If you prefer your crepes sweet, Icosium offers tasty treats like the crepe aziz, made with fresh strawberries, kiwis and dark chocolate or Nutella, or the simple crepe anytime, served with your choice of butter and sugar, dark chocolate, Nutella, syrup or other sugary selections. All can be topped with a scoop or two of ice cream — flavor options include green tea, pistachio and plain (yet dependable) old vanilla.
Wash your crepe of choice down with some strong Turkish coffee, African tea or some fresh orange juice. Just make sure you come early on weekends — the place gets packed. There's also a sister location in Andersonville.
