NOW CLOSED...Formerly: If you're not a gym buff, this place may not be on your radar quite yet. The sister store to the more pedestrian-friendly Doc's in Bucktown, this smoothie shop is located on the second floor of the Holmes Place Health Club in Streeterville. Although it's somewhat hidden behind the front desk of the gym and mostly frequented by the patrons of Holmes, you don't need to work up a sweat to enjoy a fruity concoction.
Doc’s blends up an assortment of organic, ice- and sugar-free smoothies. Choose from a selection of specialties, like the Nutty Professor (bananas, strawberries, organic peanut butter, fat-free yogurt and soy milk) or the Tango Mango (strawberries, peaches, mangoes and apple juice), or you can create your own. Pick up to three fruits, one booster (protein, omega 3, antioxidant, cholesterol killer) and one juice. A 16-oz. smoothie will put you back $4.99, a 20-oz. $5.99 and a 24-oz. $6.99. Kick your smoothie into high gear with extras like granola, peanut butter or agave for 50 cents extra.
Doc's also offers fresh carrot and orange juice, a variety of granola and power bars, wraps (turkey, hummus or spicy Mexican) and soups (spinach lentil is a constant). Try the Doc's Favorite Meal combo which includes half a wrap, a small soup and a 16-oz. smoothie for $9.99. Or, for $5.99, get that deal minus the smoothie.
Take your frosty blend on the run or enjoy it there – the interior has a modern, stylish sense with small, square glossy black tables, three rouge-red couches, a flat-screen TV and giant windows looking down on the street below. There's no shortage of seats here, so relax and unwind over a slowly-sipped smoothie.
