Although Albany Park is already home to a plethora of high-quality Mediterranean restaurants, Dawali is a welcome addition, providing fast, affordable meals that stand up to the similar (yet more expensive) dining locations nearby.
Dawali is casual dining done right: an open dining area filled with granite table tops and lots of windows combined with a very welcoming and friendly staff. The partly open cooking area allows you to see the chefs at work preparing your meal. Order your food at the cash register, and as each dish is made to order (with fresh ingredients) you can feel free to specify exactly what you're looking for. I had one of the tastiest chicken shawarmas in Chicago along with an appetizing spinach bread pie cooked to perfection. The menu features everything you'd expect at a Mediterranean restaurant (falafel, humnmus, baba ghanoush, kebabs, shawarma, etc.) including a wide variety of vegetarian options – the falafel sandwich is particularly delicious.
Though the teas are not made fresh, they do make an outstanding cup of Turkish coffee, served in a traditional cup. And since Dawali is open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, it's the perfect place to come for a late night treat.
