Sometimes just the smell of a restaurant tells you everything you need to know. For example, the smell in La Choza is thick with spices and cheese and meat. It's Mexican comfort food at its best.
From the outside La Choza looks small, but inside the place is surprisingly sprawling. It's not a fancy restaurant, but its no slouch either. It's just the kind of place you go when you want chips and salsa and tacos and guacamole. Breakfast options include a few versions of scrambled eggs and two versions of chilaquiles (the most expensive of which is $7). Tacos start at just $1.35 and top out at $2. Tostadas will run you all of $2.50 and burritos run from $4 to $6. Other options include tortas, sope and gorditas.
For dinner pick from the traditional enchiladas or fajitas or venture out and try something new like beef liver with jalapeno and bacon or the beef tongue dinner. Wash it down with a homemade rice water or a tasty Mexican soda. Be sure to bring some money for the jukebox, which is packed with traditional Mexican music.
