The owners of Beverly Bakery may not have spent much time on the rather obvious name, but that just gave them more time to make delicious treats beyond delectable fruit tarts and the kind of chocolate-covered donuts you stuff whole into your mouth.
Jim Quigley opened this pastry and sandwich shop-a neutral-toned, daytime version of "Cheers"-in 2005 to afford the folks of Beverly a breakfast nook without the corporate, stoic styles of some donut and coffee shops. In the spirit of giving, he offers a senior citizen discount every Tuesday and Wednesday. Furthering his penchant for pleasing, he offers $5.95 sandwich plates featuring turkey, ham, roast beef or grilled cheese on your choice of homemade bread. The St. Patty's Day crowd often finds the Irish Soda bread especially appealing after a parade.
Thinking of breakfast? Will a $5.45 stack of apple cinnamon or pecan pancakes make you at least contemplate it? Perhaps. If the pre-work sugar high doesn't do it for you, then consider fulfilling your morning portion or protein and veggies in the shape of a provolone and zucchini omelet. Just a thought.
When it's hot outside, a granite porch with wooden benches awaits the dine-in crowd. And when it's cold, a piping hot mocha made with Illinois' own Fratelli coffee should warm things up.
