Everyone's welcome at Beggars: High school-aged kids after a sporting event, college kids looking for some late-night munchies and families who don't have it in 'em to cook all congregate at the place whose logo features a friendly cartoon homeless man holding a steaming pizza.
The main dining room houses small tables, normal-sized booths and booths that can seat 8-10 comfortably. If you're considering taking advantage of the daily special—$10 domestic buckets—you may want to secure an outer seat, making for easy bathroom access. Beggars also has three other party rooms that are usually rented out for birthday parties or other family functions.
You can almost predict the items that fall on the appetizer menu. Common greasy pleasures like mozzarella sticks, mini tacos, poppers and fried ravioli are all under six bucks. There's a handful of pasta dishes like lasagna and veal parmesan that go for around $10, and a Lincoln will do you for sandwiches like a BLT or a cheeseburger.
The pizza is the real treat of the place, especially since real, Chicago-style pies aren’t always easy to find in the 'burbs. Beggars has over 20 ingredients so you can customize your very own pie. Deep dishes take about 40 minutes to cook, so if you're in a rush, call ahead to cut down on at-table waiting time. A thin-crust, family-size pizza is only about $20, so feeding the family won’t put you on the streets.
Be sure to leave room for the one-of-a-kind deep dish chocolate chip cookies for dessert.
