Located right across the street from the Sulzer Library, this rather large public park offers ample space with plenty of shade. The park incorporates tennis courts, a playground, a baseball diamond, benches, tables, a gazebo, a rec center with an indoor pool, a weight room and a recording studio into one entity.
This park truly represents the neighborhood’s diversity, as you can find just about everyone doing just about everything. Welles Park is also home to the "Special Music for Special People" organization, a program for developmentally disabled adults and children that allows them to compose, record and perform original music. Named for Gideon Welles, Secretary of the Navy under President Lincoln, the 15-acre park ranks as one of the city’s finest.
