I saw a great show last weekend: An Affair of Honor. Babes With Blades - has been toiling away in the trenches for years, honing their skills and putting up shows with scenes to showcase them in. With this production, they take the potential they have been distilling all that time and explode out into full-flower. The show is solid - top-to-bottom. But beyond being simply entertaining, the stories told here allow for reflection on pieces of women's history, social commentary and thought - as well as some keen glimpses into the emotions that drive the violence.
In may shows, the audience is left with the feeling that the scene has been created as an excuse for the fights. Here - the Babes With Blades company has created a show worthy of weaving its fighting skills within as another fine element of a rich and rewarding experience. I hope will mark the begining of a new era for this company - and it's a treat for the audiences that see it! Go and see this great show!

Everyonce in a while I pick up a film at the video store that enables me to take my nose out of the clouds and look at what this life truly has to offer.
"Stevie" by Steve James fit that nail right on the head. It is truly refreshing to see a film maker create a movie about those less fortunate in life. A film that doesn't make fun of anyone's limitations, but shows what they actually do have.
When I began watching this film I must admit I caught myself looking down on Stevie and his girlfriend. I found myself viewing them as backwoods and not up to speed with the real world. But, as the film progressed forward I found myself in awe of Stevie's girlfriend, and how some of the things she said were so profound, innocent, and true. What was more shocking is when she and Stevie came to see her best friend in Chicago. I was watching the film and thinking here are two people that the rest of the world sees as not quite up to speed on things, making these terrifyingly accurate statments about Stevie and where his life was going.
Thankyou Sincerely, James Jones
p.s. Is there any contact with Stevie as of today, and will we be able to see more of his life. God knows the mans done some wrong things, but he's also been beat down quite a bit. Once his sentence is over I would like to see if the cream can rise to the top!

Jeff Kwit is outrageously funny. A seasoned local actor, writer, director, and singer, Jeff offers a little of everything to his audiences. His work can definitely claim across-the-board appeal, but the neighborhood flavor of his writing is especially fun for locals. His annual comedy shows are truly "must see" productions. Lucky for us, we can also enjoy Jeff's comedic genius as a local karaoke DJ, and as a contributor of articles to many local newspapers, including the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, The Daily Herald, and others.
