I would love to like this place. I would love to give it a great review. But unfortunately I can not. Unfortunately I am forced to give my hard earned dollar to places like starbucks even though I would rather not. And it's because the place is infested with cynical hipsters who could care less about your existence! I don't need to be treated like royalty as a customer, I'd like to think i'm relatively easygoing-but after a grueling and unsatisfying morning dealing with the caffeine nazis over at Charmers, I have to take a stand against establishments big and small and start making my coffee at home! A blight in the land of Rogers Park is Charmers! Down with their better-than-thouness!

Charmers lives up to its name. The art deco decor makes the space warm & inviting. After visiting hundreds of identical "McStarbucks" over the years, it's so refreshing to visit a coffee house that has such a unique and beautiful look. The coffee is fab, and is a much better value than the other retail chains. My usual soy latte was $.60 less than at the usual joints. I'm so glad this place opened in Rogers Park!

It is indeed a nice space and they make great use of the art deco gilded ladies from the now-defunct Charmer's bar, but the cafe closes too early to be a good spot for us 9-to-5ers to hang out and chat, study or stare out the rather nice front windows. The "pastries" case was also pretty darn barren the two times I was able to make it in before they closed.

To add insult to injury: Dagel and Beli doesn't open up early enough in the morning to grab a breakfast bagel for the morning commute.

Lots of potential, but not on the whole not a welcoming coffee-shop experience.
