This place really is quite nice. I had some type of chicken dish and it was wonderful, especially the sauce. And, sitting at the bar, I was treated to a number of glasses of wine, on the house. It's good to have something this good and stylish in this part of Edgewater/Rogers Park.

The food here is nothing to write home about. Go to an old-fashioned Chineses place like Mei Shing (next to Pastuer on Broadway) for a much tastier, cheaper dinner. Service sucks. We were given the wrong appetizers twice. Waiter didn't give a rip. Watch for the (illegal) 20% gratuity not on menu (for party of 5 ?).

As a Rogers Park resident I was excited about the opening of Viet Bistro. I am totally amazed with what they did with the space, which was formally an empty store front in terrible repair. Now it is an open, trendy 2-room restaurant with floor to ceiling windows, a comfortable atmosphere, and beautiful furniture. The menu is limited, but I think short menus often result in much better food. The shrimp dish certainly proved that point. It was excellent, perfectly prepared and beautifully arranged on the plate. I also enjoyed the beef soup recommended to me, it was packed full of many different ingredients and big chunks of meat. The BYOB policy certainly suits me with Hanh's Liquor less than a block west on Devon. I have been very surprised at the consistently empty tables. I think Viet needs to do a better job advertising because this is a place anyone on the North Side should visit.
