After requesting to sit outside, we were directed to the side portion of outside where we battled gnats and flies throughout the meal in an area that 10' warmer than on the street. The Veal Feancese came with 3 pieces with one being not cooked and tough. It was served with a great white sauce but a red pasta was given with the meal. Wife had the "brick" chicken which was good. Waiters are too attentive as they take away a plate before you are really through. The seating hostesses acted like Stepford women. C- is the grade for Carmine's. Much better places in the area.

Blech -- touristy, etc.
Reservation was promptly honored, however we were slammed with our order. In fact, the table next to us received their entree when they were less than 1/2 way through the appetizer.
Food was ok. Dessert poor. A schlocky tourist trap. Just understand this.

We are from the UK, went to Carmine's on a Saturday night. Reservation was for 7.30 seated by 8.15 food was excellent & worth the short wait. Very busy, good atmosphere, would go again if ever in Chicago. :-) x

Went on Thursday! The best! The Ravioli and the coconut cake were heaven! I wished I could go back! Great is all I have to say! The service was Excellant!

Went there Saturday night. The calamari was greasy, served with cocktail sauce instead of marinara. My wife ordered veal piccata, which was undercooked. We were entertaining out-if-towners who wanted to go there, but we'll never go again. There's plenty of Italian restaurants in Chicago that have better food, and you avoid the clamor of Rush St.

I also do not know what Fitzgerald is talking about either. This place has great service every time I have ever been there and that is at least 10 times. The food is just as good as the service.

Don't know why Fitzgerald gave this place a bad rap... we go every time we are in Chicago and we have never been disapointed! Great food, our servers have been excellent, crowded, yes, but that is to be expected!

If you want gross overcrowding,(the Chicago fire department would have a fit if they saw this place on a Friday or Saturday night), dreadful service, a very rude manager who has no manners whatsoever and extremely disappointing food. This is your place to eat.
The late great Julia Child would turn in her grave at this American example of shocking hospitality, rudeness and culinary disappointment. You make you own minds up, I think that this is a CHICAGO place NOT TO EAT and SHOULD BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS. I would like to call this place disgraceful but it is not that good.
