The first time I went to Avenues was on a whim with friends when the Rosebud lost our reservation. Needless to say, we were not all dressed appropriately and the men had to go back for jackets. The wait staff were snobby and unaccomadating to our dress predicament. Even though, we were all dressed nicely and there was only one other couple in the restaurant.
However... the food made up for it. We all had the chef's special menu. The truffles were to die for and the monk fish liver was delectable.
The chef came out and introduced himself. He was very nice and alot of fun. He even offered us more of our favorite dishes!
Despite the snobbery of the waitstaff, the entire experience was irreplacable.

Best. Service. Ever. Don't hate me for saying this, Charlie, but I prefer this restaurant over Mr. Trotters. Superb but non-condescending service, wonderful food, an expansive yet inviting space. This is our favorite place in Chicago ... and possibly anywhere.
