We had dinner at Los Nopales last night and our experience was the same as Mrjustice. If you want really good, authentic Mexican food, try one of the other nearby restaurants.

This place is great. Authentic, fresh and flavorful food, pleasant wait staff, nice ambiance. And it's affordable to boot.

Hard to believe prior reviewer ate at the same place I did. I regularly eat Mexican Food and love it; but this was one of the worst I've had in Chicago area. Taco Dinner Plate and Burrito Dinner Plate were both horid; about as far from 'authentic' as I can imagine. Even the red and green salsa were terrible. And, prices were high for the dishes, with just about everything 'extra'. Even the BYO was with a corkage fee. Far better Mexican restaurants are can be found -- just about anywhere else.

I had the opportunity to eat lunch at Los Nopales yesterday and I have to say it was a wonderful experience. The mexican cuisine was delicious and the service was cheerful. We started with the salsa and chips provided gratis and we ate three helpings. Guacamoli was perfect. I ordered the enchiladas suizzas which were excellent and came with a light tasting rice and very good refried beans. My friends had the lunch special (ask for specials) which they said was delicious. Afterward we sampled the coffee flan and the almond flan which practically melted in your mouth and several of us were fighting over it. Over all I would say this small family restaurant is a neighborhood gem.
