After hearing wonderful reviews, I tried MacArthur's for the first time last Saturday, and I was disappointed that it didn't live up to the hype. My husband and I are both from the South, so we are quite familiar with good Southern cooking. Of the items we tried, I give a thumbs up to the red beans and barbecue chicken. As for the rest of the meal, the turnip greens were average, the macaroni & cheese was also average (almost identical to Cracker Barrel's), the mashed potatoes were tasteless without the overly salty gravy, and the cornbread was dry and stone cold. It's true that the prices are great for the huge portions one receives, but as for the taste, it was lackluster.

The food is awesome and it is the heart of the west side community. They even offer healthy alternatives to their everyday belly buster menu. I love it and me and my famliy eat there everyday Sunday!

For one the Staff is very friendly. I love the way the restaurant is decorated. The staff all wears covering over their head so hair can’t get into the food. I love the cute uniforms they wear, and how sparkling clean the restaurant is and how they have the seating arranged and in perfect condition
I also love the food no matter what I order the food is always delicious. Last time I was there I seen Devo there. A lot of Movie Stars Singers and Alderman and other Famous people when they are in town head over to Mc Arthur. I just want to say to Mc Arthur and staff Thanks for being the number 1 soul food restaurant in the City Of Chicago Sabrina

This was my first time eating at MacArthur's. My friend, granddaughter and her friend enjoyed the food. The portions were large. We will go back. We travelled about 15 miles to get there. Please try it you won't be sorry.

I'm fmrom New Orleans and love to vist MacArtur's. Every vist to the windy city must include a stop here. The food is always finger lickin good.

The food was wonderful and full of flavor, and very generous portions. There was plenty to choose from for all the members of my family and there different palates. Well dine there or take out again.
