    Volo: relaxed, intimate, sophisticated, sublime.

Chicago is awash with small plates restaurants, an adventurous devotee could spend a month dining at nothing but tapas concepts. But such a devotee would surely stop and revel at the relaxed and intimate atmosphere they'd find at Volo.

Set apart from the center of chicago's fine dining scene, Volo's Roscoe Village location complements it perfectly, the relative tranquility of its surroundings allowing the food to achieve a sophisticated, but rustic excellence.

The Steak Tartare and the Sweet Pea flatbread stood out for their bold simplicity. While Volo is certainly a fine dining restaurant, where wine pairings are emphasized, but certainly not required for an excellent meal, its food lacks pretension.

The Service was similarly understated, with our waitress exhibiting a strong knowledge of the menu without being arrogant.

As a quiet restaurant with a delicous, rustic menu, Volo can't be beat. Volo in a wordL sublime.

Volo started out great but continues to go down hill at a rapid pace. The wine list is good - not huge and the food is small - even for tapas (don't go even remotely hungry. Truly though, if I wanted to drink a great bottle of wine while listening to Guns and Roses and surrounded by relatively obnoxious people I could just sit on the Edens for an hour, buy a bottle and crank up my stereo on my back deck. Even then it would be better.

Dined last night. Noted Intimate setting, attentive staff, wonderful smells from the open kitchen.

There was lot of looking at the neighbor's table to see what they got. The tapas-esque style paced the experience. Small plate portions (like an appetizer) were generally served in series for sharing, allowing focus on a single dish and it's pairing with the wine flight (3 small glasses of a wine group).

The onion soup was rich. The Prince Edward Sound mussels (the staff knew the mussels' origins when asked) were lounging in a light buttery broth - but not for long. It was quickly sopped up with the hot crusty bread. Lamb stew was light on meat, but attention was paid to the flavorful stock, as well as the vegetable doneness.

A very enjoyable evening. Will return.

A very nice but noisy little wine bar. The setting is certainly intimate and modern, but well done. The food especially the pizza's were quite good. The cheese couse is also a fair value for what you get. The prices are reasonable and parking is typically not a problem. It deinitely gets busy, so go early or be prepared to wait as they typically do not accept resos.

This cozy, easy-to-but-not-to-miss wine bar/restaurent is my favorite in Roscoe Village and one of my top 5 in the city.

A small but really tasty menu, topped with good service and sometimes personal attention by chef Steve Dunne who really puts his heart in making the wonderful dishes.

I love the muscles and the service and the atmosphere.
