My husband and I dined here last Saturday night. We weren't starving, so opted not to dine family style (way too much food!). We each order the caesar salad, which was marvelous! It was served crispy cold, with just the right seasoned dressing and lots of luscious shaved paremesean. We also each ordered the Paparedelle with meat sauce - I had the half order, he had the full - and neither of us could finish! The meat sauce is dark, rich and beefy, the pasta perfectly tender. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and can't wait to get back to Chicago to return to our favorite restaurant!

Excellent food and welcoming staff. The pear salad with blue cheese dressing, the caramelized onions and the cavatelli were exceptional. The best dessert had to be the mocha gelato with the chocolate covered expresso bean and the chocolate hard shell. Next time we will order two of those. The only thing I would change is that the "little" antipasto dishes came to fast, even before we got our wine, which made us feel a bit rushed at the beginning...I would come back but next time sit at the bar and order the dishes I enjoyed the most.

Dined at Osteria Via Stato last evening with guests from out of town. The restaurant has awesome food. You are served a fixed price menu including salads, antipasta's family style and then each person picks their main dish. Great food. Although I dining experience ended up lasting 3 hours with about 45 minutes between some courses. Not sure if it was the kitchen or our server that was slow. Then it took over 10 minutes for valet to return our car. Would go back, just not if we had a schedule to follow.

I was really impressed with Osteria. For the amount and quality of the food, it's a great deal. I particularly liked one of the pasta dishes I had, and was delighted to find out that I could request more for no additional charge. I agree with the above reviewer: the food really does rival some of the best food I ate while in Italy.

I have been for both lunch and dinner now and have been bowled-over on both occasions. Lunch is just amazing value for what you get, but dinner is still quite reasonable. My wife and I have been to many top notch restaurants in the US and Europe and, whilst not quite Gordon Ramsay, the food here stands up to scrutiny well. The atmosphere is lively and relaxed and the staff ever so accommodating.

Credit too is due to the wine list. Great selection by the glass and reasonable prices. If you leave it to the sommelier to choose (for $15, $28 or $50 per head for 3 small-ish glasses) you will get some particularly fine wines. We noted, in our case, that the wines provided were not otherwise available by the glass. We're not talking Cheval Blanc (not least since they only have Italian wines) but we are talking wines that you would not feel unhappy paying $20 or $30 per bottle for at retail. Great concept and very glad that it is in my neighborhood.

Celebrated my birthday Saturday night and found the entire experience fantastic. Great food (and plenty of it)with great wine at affordable prices. The carmalized onion melted in your mouth and was as sweet as can be. The pasta's were as good as Nona's and by the time our entree came, you could have put a fork in me, I was done. I highly recommend Osteria Via Stato and as my grandmother would say "Mangia"

I visit Osteria last night for the very first time. I had a nice glass of wine at the bar and the wine list was just terrific and I like the idea of those original quartino, and super, just italian wine! The bartenders approach me in a friendly and professional attitude, and even the bartender is an original italian charming woman wich made the atmosphere more ineresting. We seat at the table after a reasonable wait and the dinner began. I havent had a real italian meal since last time I was visiting Italy. Everything was just so` tastefull. Great idea a free-worry menu. I didnt had to care about the right wine to match with my entree `cause the sommelier, a nice young gentleman w an european accent, was ready to help us w/our choise. It was the perfect dining experience ever. The staff is young, smiling and professional and they`re all really good looking people, including the managers. I wonder if to be part of the Osteria staff,is a requested skill to be handsome and spirited ! I cant wait to tell all my friends about my new discovery. Bravi !
