Very pleasant place to pass a few hours with the paper, a book or a friend. The tea is delicious, the owner is attentive and kind, and the atmosphere is inviting. Wifi is spotty, though, so don't count on it if you need fast web access.

Cafe Ballou is my favorite neighborhood cafe. Christine is very nice and she always asks me about my life and goings on. She is great. The menu is by far the best of any coffee shop in the area. The breakfast sandwhiches are great- I get the egg and cheese on a croissant. The other food is always awesome too. I especially love the Roasted Red Pepper Club as well as the homemade treats in the case. Also- check out the specials board. She often has soup/sandwhich combos that aren't on the daily menu. The atmosphere is cozy and reminds me of Paris. She does a great job, and I'd definately recommend it. Being a regular here is fun.

this place was so comfortable and cozy and the lunch was filling and affordable. I especially fell in love with the white hot chocolate with whip cream. I will definitely be back.

It's nice, friendly neighborhood cafe. However if you are looking for turkish coffee, look for some other place. Turkish coffee is not served at Cafe Ballou.

(Serious) Students: this is an excellent spot to study solo or with a group. Everyone who frequents this cafe behaves like a grownup and the owner discourages obnoxious cellphone use, so it is a calm environment with free wireless for conversational or study engagements. The coffee, desserts, and the tunafish sandwich rock. Yay, Christine!

A great place to spend part of the day with your laptop. Great food, charming hostess, and a plesant, thoughtfully decorated space.

As posted in this ad, K. Schwartz, hit it right on the buzzer. The Ballou Salad and the Roasted Red Pepper Sandwich served at Cafe Ballou, are so delicious. Time & time again, the flavor, the textures, are always the same. Compliments to Christine. My company has been on this strip of Western Ave. for approx. 9 years, and Cafe Ballou is a business establishment that has been received so well by all in the community. Owner, Christine with her vibrant personality, has brightened up my spirits and I'm sure all of those who've visited her throughout the Ukrainian Village. It's always a joy picking up on of my favorites. Recommend: Iced Mocha Valencia, Red Eye or Mocha Cappuccino. Cafe Ballou is a simple, charming cafe which serves great sandwiches, soups and coffee.
