I used to love Crew. They have excellent food and a great atmosphere. It is a shining beacon of hope for the neighborhood. However, the last time (and final time) I went there, about a year ago, we were rudely ignored by the waitstaff. And then it struck me, we werent one of the "beautiful people" in the restaurant. Three of the waiters stared at us from the back and didnt serve us. We sat at the table for 20 minutes with no food or beverage while they stared. Finally we got the hint and left. It was the rudest experience I have ever had in a bar or restaurant.

I have to say I thank the owners of this bar (Crew Bar and Grill) for opening the doors. I have become a Beer God here, drank all (at the time) 71 different beers, even found some new beers I liked. I have ate about half the different foods on the menu and never was disappointed. A class act by the staff, and sports all the time. Thanks for opening.

Despite its name Crew isn’t a joint for pressed-up sailors but the home of sports fans gay and straight alike. This self-proclaimed “state of the art” bar and grill is a refreshing breeze from the typical beat up pub. The wide turquoise front leads to a spacious room whose wood veneer walls, sharp angles and metal accents make the place a sophisticated hang-out. Three plasma screens stretch out football fields above the bar while several monitors glare at every other corner. A projector drenches a screen with music videos or games on special nights. High tables and stools by the entrance make up most of the seating, and while the bar is a sleek spot for a drink, the platform area opposed to it is ideal for dining with friends. The staff is friendly and quick on the refills. Crew’s food, however, might just be its greatest asset. The menu is extensive and offers original twists on American bar food and Mexican tapas. Favorites include the Santa Fe Chicken Egg Rolls (chicken, black beans, roasted red peppers and pepper Jack cheese in fried tortillas) the quesadillas or the Southwest Chicken Caesar Wrap. Burgers and sandwiches all come with no other than Plain, Garlic-Pepper or Spicy fries. Crew’s most flamboyant crowd shows up mostly on week-ends or during themed nights where gay games seem to have little to do with sports. Located on Broadway and Lawrence Crew’s sleek vibe and ever-friendly service make for one of Uptown’s essential destinations.
