I give this bar a negative rating, which is sad because it's so close to home and SHOULD be a really awesome place to have a few drinks and chill out and it is, if you don't mind slow service, surly waitstaff, smelling like fried food, getting called ugly and vitriol-filled names and threatened with bodily harm by the scraggly, scrawny, skanky blond bartender and his meth-mouth side kick. If you're into that kind of thing then this bar is for you, because this is exactly what happened to me and my group of nine people on 4/17/08.
I admit, I made a mistake in purchasing a beer for someone who didn't have their ID on them (and quickly apologized to said bartender for my bar faux pas), but the situation absolutely did not warrant the bartender(s) to be as rude and ugly as he was, not only to me, but to my entire group--of which none had said a word to him other than ordering their food and drinks.
Personally, I suggest staying far, far away from this place.

Having moved to Logan Square a few months back I was pleased to have found Small Bar just a short walk away from my front door. Fantastic beer selection. Super-friendly and very informative bartenders. Not sure about some beer whose name catches your eye up on the board? Ask. I've discovered a few favorite new brews thanks to doing so. I've had dinner there a few times now as well. A little pricier than normal bar food, but the quality matches the price. Plan on spending about 10 bucks if you decide on ordering dinner. If you have a group and need an appetizer, the cheese curds are a must. Also, a few decent vegetarian choices as well. They serve veggie, turkey and beef burgers. You choose. The jukebox is satisfacotry as well. Small Bar has become my neighborhood bar and I couldn't be more thankful.

I love this neighborhood bar and have come plenty of times, but only for liquid dinners. But after a visit last week, I can definitely vouch for the food. It's a little pricey ($10 sandwiches) but our grilled chicken and blackened catfish sandwiches were tasty, and the sweet potato fries and tots were excellent sides. I was suprised to see homemade cheesecake on the menu (good with the Lindeman's Framboise).

Smart Bar is a warm welcome to this section of the neighborhood. I recently moved to Wellington and the Bar is half a block a way. The Staff are friendly and food is awesome. It is great to have a bar that is not only an extension of the community, but of your living room as well. A must for anyone venturing to the NW side.

This place gets my highest rating--nine thumbs up. But really, a great bar, with very good bar food. Being new to the neighborhood, I was hoping to find a place just like this.

Great Bar! Good crowd, atmosphere and beer selection. Food is great as well! I wish it was closer to my apartment because I want to go back more!
